      True or False?
1 // True or False. Signs of sensory processing issues can appear as early as infant or toddler stages.
True — Signs of sensory processing issues can be identified quite early in a child’s develop- ment. For example, some infants and tod- dlers with sensory processing issues may be easily startled, excessively fussy about food
or extremely irritable when being dressed. Some children with sensory processing issues may seem unaffected by bumps and falls that would be painful for other kids.
2 // True or False. A child who has difficulty sitting still during circle time and is rolling around on the floor is always seeking attention from peers and the teacher.
False — A child may be having difficulty during circle time not because they are acting out, but because they are unable to self-regulate their body. A child may require proprioceptive input as well as classroom accommodations
in order to attend to the teacher and focus on the directions provided.
3 // True or False. A child who is chewing on clothing may be overstimulated within their environment and is using chewing as a way to soothe.
True—Some children require sensory input to the mouth and jaw to help calm their nervous
system when they are overstimulated, nervous or overwhelmed. Chewing on non-food objects and clothing may also be a way for a child to explore their environment and get the input needed to attend and focus.
4 // True or False. A child who is experiencing sound sensitivities may have difficulty in environments such as the grocery store, mall, cafeteria, and school assembly.
True — Noisy environments can impact behavior, attention and emotional wellbeing. Parents and caregivers can use sensory-based strategies to help children with self-regulation, supporting calm and focus even in challenging environments.
5 // True or False: Most children will grow out of sensory processing issues.
